Seminars: Keynote Address, Exclusive JCB Spirits Tasting

Jean-Charles Boisset was born in the village of Vougeot, Burgundy, France where his parents, Jean-Claude and Claudine, founded the family winery in 1961 with an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit in one of the most traditional winegrowing regions in the world. Today, the family collection includes wineries that share more than 18 centuries of combined winemaking heritage and tradition in some of the world’s most prestigious terroirs, from Burgundy to the South of France, to California’s Napa Valley and Russian River Valley. The Boisset Collection includes Buena Vista Winery, DeLoach Vineyards, Fortant, and Raymond Vineyards. Jean-Charles leads the family firm with passionate commitment to fine wine, history, quality and a deep respect for the environment by implementing organic and Biodynamic farming at all of the family’s estate vineyards in Burgundy and California.

In 2017 Jean-Charles decided to further honor his Burgundian roots — and his family’s long history of crafting spirits — by unveiling JCB Spirits, which are wine-based, distilled beverages from the two main grapes of his home region, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. For years he has been working to perfect spirits recipes with a master distiller in Nuits-Saint-Georges, finally settling on a gin and three vodkas: classic, truffle and caviar. Honoring Jean-Charles’ passion for using only the best ingredients, the spirits are made from hand-sorted grapes and the purest water from historical springs in France, which are then fermented into wine and then slowly distilled seven times to produce refined, pure spirits. In order to reflect each year’s unique attributes and growing conditions, JCB Spirits are not mass-produced year-round, but rather made once per year and reflect a single vintage.

Among his many accolades, Decanter magazine has included him on its “Power List” of the 50 most important people in the wine world each year of its publication since 2007; in March 2008, he received the Meininger’s International Wine Entrepreneur of the Year; and in December 2008, he was named “Innovator of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. In 2014, JFK University in Concord named Jean-Charles and his wife Gina Gallo its “Entrepreneurs of the Year.” In March 2016, Jean-Charles and Gina received the Mondavi Food & Wine award Robert Mondavi Wine & Food award by The Collins College of Hospitality Management in honor of their vision and leadership to advance the wine industry.
